STABLE & SELF-SUFFICIENT FAMILIES
Strategy Name: Stable and Self-Sufficient Families
Strategy Statement: The Lee County Family Connection, Inc. collaborative will continue to work with community partners to engage in conversations and implement programs addressing the emerging trends impacting our children and families ability to build their self-sufficiency.
HUNGER DOES NOT TAKE THE WEEKEND OFF.
Since 2010, students in our community have been supported through Backpack Blessings, a weekend nutritional support program.
The program serves students K-5th grade, enrolled in Lee County schools, who meet the application requirements.
The Federal Free & Reduced Program provides two meals a day at school to students who qualify, but what happens on the weekend?
There are some students in our community who may go home to an empty pantry or to an unsupervised home where cooking food may not be an option.
Backpack Blessings provides all shelf-stable, individual serving size, items that are nutritional and provides breakfast items, proteins, snacks, and beverages.
It costs $200 to support ONE student for ONE school year. If you would like to support a student, please click the donate button.
All students families' who are served by Backpack Blessings are eligible to register for the annual Christmas Store.
The Christmas Store allows our families to shop, in person, for their children's Christmas gifts.
Each child receives 3 gifts, a stocking filled with stuffers, a new pair of pajamas, and a new book. Gifts can be gift wrapped, if desired.
Each family receives a family gift and other basic neccessity items, when funds allow, such as groceries, household goods, etc.
The Christmas Store is a 3-day event. Day 1 is set-up, and the store runs for 2 days.
Many volunteers are needed for this event. If you would like more information on how you can support the Christmas Store or if you would like to volunteer. Click the button here.
